The SDCCC Mass is celebrated at 5:30 every Sunday afternoon by Chinese-speaking priests from the greater Los Angeles area, or visiting Chinese priests from all over the world, as well as by local retired English-speaking priests. Mandarin, Cantonese, and English are used in the liturgy. Community members participate actively in the liturgy as music ministers, Eucharistic ministers, lectors, sacristans, and altar servers.
The SDCCC has grown from ten families to more than eighty active families since 1995. Currently the SDCCC has seven Bible study and faith sharing groups, the Legion of Mary, as well as faith formation for children (grades 1-6), youth (junior and senior high), and adults (RCIA). Many SDCCC members are registered parishioners of St Thérèse of Carmel Parish, and they actively participate in parish activities such as Disciples in Mission, RCIA, and Eucharistic ministry.
SDCCC members often join other Southern California Chinese Catholic groups for spiritual growth seminars, retreats, family camps, Marriage Encounter meetings, Healing of Hearts prayer, catechetical work and evangelization activities. Members of the Legion of Mary go to Senior Center and the CCA jail to visit Elderly and inmates who only speak Chinese on a regular basis, to provide them comfort, to carry out God’s commandment of love.
